Shooting took place in Rembang regency, Central Java. Set in the late 1980s to mid-1990s, the film explores masculinity and power relations that flourished in Indonesia at the time.
The novel was published in Indonesia in 2014 by Gramedia and has been translated into six languages and distributed in nine countries, including China, the United Kingdom, France and Italy. It narrates the love story of Ajo, a fighter who keeps his sexual impotency a secret, and Iteung (Ladya Cheryl), a female bodyguard of the local mafia. Helmed and penned by Edwin, Seperti Dendam, Rindu harus Dibayar Tuntas is adapted from award-winning author Eka Kurniawan’s third novel of the same name. Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas will be his acting debut. He was nominated four times for the Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards from 2018 to 2020.
